Thirsk & Northallerton Golf Club is within close proximity to the park and offers a warm welcome to all levels of golfer. The 18 hole course offers an exciting challenge to visitors, guests and members with a free taster session available for beginners. Hollin Barn Lodge Park is just a couple of minutes from Thirsk, a traditional market town in the vale of Mowbray.As the heart of Herriot Country, Thirsk doubled as Barrowby in Alf Wright`s now world famous novels featuring his alter ego, James Herriot. The original surgery at 23 Kirkgate, where Wight worked, is now a museum devoted to “ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL”.

Thirsk centres a cobbled market square, has boutiques and shops with a Monday & Saturday market and is dominated by the historic town clock tower.
A day out at the races is a perfect way to enjoy a day out with family and friends. Thirsk Racecourse offers a picturesque course with high quality racing to make sure you have an enjoyable and affordable day out.


The historic City of York, 23 miles away, is renowned for its exquisite architecture and quaint cobbled streets. It's rich in ancient history and offers many tourist attractions such as the York Minster, Cliffords Tower, and the Jorvik Centre. From narrow streets, lively with chic cafes and specialist shops, to trips on its tree-lined river, York is a treasure house with a superb choice of museums and galleries. 

Visit Castle Howard, 15 mile north of York, and enjoy world-renowned collection of   stunning architecture and inspiring family stories. Castle Howard is Yorkshire's finest stately home and garden. Grand interiors, gardens and an adventure playground make a great family day out.
Discover Whitby, one of the North East Coasts best loved seaside towns. With lots of historic events from Bram Stokers Dracula to the Whitby Regatta you will never tire of this beautiful, cobbled street town. With Blue Flag beaches, restaurants, pubs and arcades there is plenty to do for all the family. 
There are many heritage sites to visit close by, including Byland Abbey, Rievaulx Abbey, Studley Hall Gardens and of course the famous Castle Howard. A visit to the white Horse pictured is a must and the view from Sutton Bank top, close to the Gliding Club is breath taking.
For those seeking fine dining then we recommend the Michelin star award winning restaurant “ The Star Inn” at Harome, nr Helmsley,also the “Carpenters Arms” at Felixkirk is only minutes away from Hollin Barn Lodge Park.
